Cotton Association of India organized Sir. Purshottamdas Thakurdas Memorial Annual Cricket Tournament in the memory of its illustrious and much loved Past Presiden, the late Sir. Purshottamdas Thakurdas, on Saturday, 3rd May, 2014 at the P. J. Hindu Gymkhana Ground, Marine Lines, Mumbai.There were four teams - (i) Buyers (ii) Sellers (iii) Brokers and (iv) Ready Brokers, each consisting of 12 players (11 + 1 extra). In all, three matches were played, with the winning team in each group playing the final match.
Shri. Jasubhai D. Mehta was the Chief Guest and presented the prizes to the winners.
Each match was of 12 overs and each over consisted of six balls. A bowler was allowed to bowl a maximum of three overs. A batsman would have to compulsorily retire once he scored 20 runs. He could, however, be recalled to bat again after all other batsmen were out and bat again only as the last man. For every no ball bowled by a bowler, 1run was added to the score of the opposite team as an extra run and the said ball was not counted. In case a no ball bowled due to “front foot out” next ball was given as free hit. For every wide ball bowled by a bowler, two runs were added to the score of the opposite team as extra runs. However, the said ball was counted. A maximum of three players from any team could be interchanged to balance the team.
First Match - Sellers’ Team v/s the Buyers’ Team
While the Sellers’ team Captain was Shri. Rishabh J. Shah, the Buyers team Captain was Shri. Parash C. Mehta. The Sellers team won the toss and decided to bat. They scored 121 runs for five wickets in 12 overs with stellar batting from Shri. Rishabh J. Shah (22 runs), Shri. Jeet Patel( 21 runs) and Shri. Abhishek Bhura (22 runs). The Buyers team scored 70 runs for nine in 12 over with the help of Shri Darshan Lakhani (15 runs) and Shri. Paras Mehta (11 runs). Shri. Manish Chauhan took four wickets. The Sellers’ team won the match and Shri. Rishabh J. Shah was awarded the Man of the Match.
Second Match - Brokers’ Team v/s Ready Brokers
The Brokers’ team captain was Shri. Rishit S. Dholakia and the Ready Brokers captain was Shri. Kasturchand D. Shah. The Brokers’ team won the toss and decided to bat. They scored 79 runs for nine wickets in 12 overs with the help of Shri. Viral Vasani (20 runs) and Shri. Tanmay Manish Daga (20 runs). Shri. Krishna Shah took three wickets and Shri. Punik K. Shah took two wickets. Ready Brokers Team scored 80 runs for three wickets in nine over with the help of Shri. Punit K. Shah (19 not out) and Shri. Dashrath Singh (24 not out). Shri. Darshan Lakhani took two wickets and Shri. Viral Vasani took one wicket. Ready Brokers’ team won the match and Shri. Dashrath Singh was given the Man of the Match award.
Final Match - Sellers’ Team v/s Ready Brokers Team
The Sellers’ team Captain was Shri. Rishabh J. Shah while the Ready Brokers team was lead by its Captain Shri. Kasturchand D. Shah. The Ready Brokers team won the toss and decided to bat. They scored 100 runs for two wickets in 12 overs with the help of Shri. Vicky (21 runs), Shri. Punit K. Shah (20 not out) and Shri. Kasturchand D. Shah (15 not out) The Sellers’ team score was 102runs for nine wickets in 12 over with the help of Shri. Jeet Patel (21 runs), and Shri. Samir Shah (21 runs). Shri. Krishna Shah took two wickets and Shri. Punit K. Shah took one wicket. The tournament was won by the Sellers’ team. The Best Bowler award was won by Shri.Manish Chauhan, the Best Batsman award went to Shri. Jeet Patel, while the Man of the Match was awarded to Shri. Samir Shah. The prestigious Man of the Series was won by Shri. Jeet Patel.
