A joint exhibition ‘Sharing Rich History of Maritime Cotton Trade’ was organised by Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) and Cotton Association of India (CAI) from Thursday, the 13th April 2023 to Saturday, the 15th April 2023 at Gateway of India, Apollo Bandar, Colaba, Mumbai 400 001. The grand inauguration took place on Thursday 13th April 2023.
The exhibition was organised to commemorate two historic milestones - MbPA completing 150 years of glorious service to the nation and CAI celebrating 100 years in the service of the cotton and textile value chain in India.
Shri. Shripad Naik, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Tourism and Ports, Shipping and Waterways inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of MbPA Chairman, Shri. Rajiv Jalota, IAS; MbPA Deputy Chairman, Shri. Adesh Titarmare, IAS; President CAI, Shri. Atul S. Ganatra; TAG Chairman Shri. Sureshbhai Kotak; Secretary Textiles, Shri. Virendra Singh; MbPA CVO Shri. Rakesh Shrivastava; CAI board members, office bearers and members of the cotton fraternity.
Sponsored by CAI, the exhibition showcased the rich and varied history and the stellar role played by both these institutions in the development of the city of Mumbai. While MbPA and CAI both displayed archival photographs; CAI also had on display cotton plants in various stages of development and smallscale models of machines relating to the processing of cotton and textile manufacturing.
The exhibition was open to the public on Friday, 14th April and Saturday, 15th April between 11.a.m. to 8 p.m., and witnessed an enthusiastic response from the public.
