Mr. Peter Wakefield, Chairman
of CICCA and Former President of International Cotton
Association was on visit to India last week. Taking
this opportunity, our Association organised a interactive
meeting between our members and Mr. Wakefield on
4th December 2008 in the Conference Room of the
Association at Cotton Exchange Building, Cotton
Green.
The Directors and a large number of our members
attended the meeting.
While welcoming Mr. Wakefield, our President,
Mr. P.D. Patodia thanked him and other members
of CICCA for entrusting him with the responsibility
of functioning as the Vice Chairman of CICCA.
He also stated that our Association is an active
member of CICCA for last several years and had
been constantly participating in the deliberations
on several global issues at its meetings.
Mr P.D. Patodia also stated that Mr. Wakefield
has been quite supportive of the initiatives taken
by our Association in promoting relationship with
China Cotton Association (CCA) and facilitated
discussions with CCA on various trade issues relating
to Indo-China Cotton Trade during the last China
Cotton Conference.
Mr. P.D. Patodia also referred to the excellent
work being done by CSITC and emphasised upon the
need for promoting instrument testing and greater
participation of cotton testing laboratories in
CSITC Round Trials. He also apprised Mr. Wakefield
about the initiative taken by the Board of our
Association to bring the cotton testing laboratories
in India on a common platform with a view to make
a collective effort towards raising the quality
of cotton testing to global standards.
In his response, Mr. Wakefield thanked Mr. Patodia
for accepting the responsibilities as the Vice
Chairman of CICCA and stated that there were several
issues on which Cotton Association of India and
CICCA could work closely.
Mr. Wakefield also assured his full support and
cooperation to our Association particularly with
Mr. P.D. Patodia delivering his Welcome Address
Members interacting with regard to issues relating
to trade with China and the Association’s
initiatives for promoting instrument testing.
This was followed by a lively and interactive
session with members during which several members
raised queries and exchanged views with Mr. Wakefield
on a wide range of topics.
Mr. B.S. Bangdiwala, Additional Vice-President
thanked Mr. Wakefield for sparing time from his
hectic schedule and having this interactive meeting
with our members. He also thanked all the members
present at the meeting for their active participation.
