–Telangana pegs '19-20 cotton output at 4.9 mln bales vs 4.2 mln

–Pegs '19-20 oilseeds output at 664,000 tn vs 568,000 tn

MUMBAI – Barring groundnut and sugarcane, output of most crops in Telangana is expected to rise in 2019-20 (Jul-Jun), as favourable rainfall has led to higher acreage and yields. Telangana received 6% above-normal rainfall of 805.0 mm in Jun-Sep.

Cotton output in Telangana is seen rising 17% on year to 4.9 mln bales in 2019-20 due to a likely rise in yields. The yield may rise to 391 kg per ha from 384 kg the previous year, the state farm department's second advance estimate showed. Maize output in the state is seen rising 26% on year to 2.6 mln tn this season due to a sharp rise in yields. The state has estimated total food grain output in 2019-20 at 13.0 mln tn, higher than 9.2 mln tn the previous year.

Total output of oilseeds is pegged at 664,000 tn, compared with 568,000 tn a year ago, the data showed. Production of turmeric is expected to rise to 305,000 tn from 294,000 tn the previous year.

Telangana is one of the leading producers of cotton, rice, maize and turmeric in the country, and largest producer of cotton among southern states. The following is the second advance estimate of output in Telangana for the 2019-20 (Jul-Jun) crop year, in tn, compared with year-ago figures, and year-on-year change:
